Virgin Tarmac Nightmare Ends with CEO Apology

What should have been a typical Virgin American flight from LAX to JFK Airport quickly turned into a hellish 16 hour runway delay this weekend.

Passengers aboard Flight 404 were stranded on the tarmac for over seven hours and later forced to take a two and a half hour bus ride.  The flight was delayed due to weather conditions, but many passengers are stating they would have rather had the flight canceled and return to the airport.

Food supplies ran thin as Pringles potato chips were rationed to passengers.  “That’s all we got, four chips and a half cup of water,” passenger Justin Gordon told the New York Post.

One female passenger sufferred a panic attack as she waited.  The passenger list included Carrie Ann Inaba of “Dancing with the Stars” and an angry CEO of a social networking site who documented the ordeal via Twitter and Youtube.  Three screaming babies were also among the unlucky.

The flight was scheduled to land at JFK at 10am, but 60 mph winds caused the plane to be diverted 90 miles north to Stewart Airport in Newburgh, where they waited for over seven hours.

Representatives from JetBlue Airlines finally boarded, telling passengers, “we’re here to get you off the plane,” a statement that was met with cheers from passengers.

Virgin America CEO David Cush sent an apology letter to each of the passengers that were stuck on the plane.  Cush promised to reimburse each of them for the cost of their flight.
