Despite rumors and hopes from fans, Tiger Woods will not be playing in next week’s Accenture Match Play Championship. The golf pro has missed yesterday’s 5pm registration deadline that would have permitted his entry in tournament.
Woods announced on his blog that he was taking an “indefinite” leave from the game following a media frenzy revolving around alleged affairs with more than a dozen women. But rumors were brewing on the Internet this week that he would be returning to the game as early as next week to compete in the Accenture Match Play Championship, a tournament that he has won three times in the past.
Accenture was a long time sponsor of Woods. The two parted ways after the reports of Woods’ infidelity became public.
Sixty-four players have registered for the 2010 Accenture Match Play Championship that will begin on Februry 15th at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club in Arizona.
Woods has two weeks to register for the upcoming California Championship, which starts in three weeks. There is no word if the golf champion intends on doing so.
