Tiger Woods may be good at golf and picking up women, but he is no car salesman, according to his former sponsor.

General Motors Co. Vice Chairman Bob Lutz said on Friday that the golfer did little to help move cars when he was the spokesperson for Buick automobiles.

“We weren’t too lucky with Tiger Woods,” Lutz told reporters.  “Maybe we didn’t have him say the right things at the time. So it’s at least partially our fault.”

GM dropped Woods as their spokesperson in 2008, a year before fallout from Woods’ extramarital affairs began to effect his pitchman jobs.

In late 2009, Woods admitted to “transgressions” on his public blog.  A media frenzy followed, focusing on a list of over a dozen women that Woods allegedly cheated on wife Elin Nordegren with.

He has since been dropped as spokesperson by many major brands, including Gatorade, At&T, Gillette, Accenture, Tag Heuer, and more.

Shoe company Nike, which sells a large line of Tiger Woods branded merchandise, has decided to stick with the golfer.
