Having a father that is the greatest golfer in the world is cool.  A father that disgraces himself in front of the whole world, not so much.

Remember just a few weeks ago when Tiger Woods was still that squeaky clean, good looking superstar of the green?  Remember seeing his pearly white teeth on murals in just about every jewelry store and sporting good shop?  Remember that epic playoff hole he shot to win the U.S. Open?

I do.

The sad part is that his two kids will never know that Tiger Woods.  Instead, they will know that the world loves to make fun of their dad.

I had a conversation with my wife about this.  We agreed that it would most likely die down in a few days and before you know it, Tiger would be back doing what he does best.  That was three weeks ago and nothing has died down.  in fact, the media coverage of Woods’ “transgressions” gets bigger and bigger everyday.

I get it.  I’m in the biz.  I understand that it’s hard to stop reporting on a story that has a new twist just about every day.  If it were just Tiger and his mistress the media would have grown cold to the story by now, but it’s Tiger and more than a dozen alleged mistresses, all of which are taking turns jumping into the spotlight.  When we get tired of hearing interviews from one, another pops up and takes her clothes off for a magazine.  When that grows old another shows up saying she’s writing a tell all book about Tiger’s sexual fetishes.

Can you imagine going to school and having all of the kids knowing that your dad may have been the Orgie King of Las Vegas?

Fortunately, Tiger’s children are just two years old and 10 months old.  They will have no memory of the current media frenzy and their parents may keep them sheltered from the past for a long time, but sooner or later, the kids at school will fill them in.

It’s very sad to think about.
