Oliver Stone
Oliver Stone has a new documentary mini-series coming to cable TV where he says he will put history’s worst nightmares such as Hitler and Stalin “in context”.
“Secret History of America” will air on Showtime and it is already causing a stir, mainly because of its director’s statements.
Stone said in a press conference, “We can’t judge people as only ‘bad’ or ‘good.’ Hitler is an easy scapegoat throughout history and its been used cheaply. He’s the product of a series of actions. It’s cause and effect”.
He seemed just as sympathetic to Stalin with, “Stalin has a complete other story… Not to paint him as a hero, but to tell a more factual representation. He fought the German war machine more than any single person.”
Stone compared his experience trying to understand President Bush in making the film “W” with making the mini-series about mass murderers, saying about George W. Bush, “I’m trying to understand somebody I thoroughly despised.”
The ten part mini-series will air on Showtime. There is plenty of time to cancel your subscription.
