John Edwards has come clean about being Quinn's father

John Edwards has taken responsibility for fathering the baby of former campaign videographer Rielle Hunter.

In a statement released today by the former Senator and presidential candidate, Edwards said, “I am Quinn’s father…It was wrong for me ever to deny she was my daughter and hopefully one day, when she understands, she will forgive me.”

He added, “To all those I have disappointed and hurt these words will never be enough, but I am truly sorry.”

The statement was released a week ahead of a scheduled ABC interview with Andrew Young, a former aid to Edwards that is expected to say that he posed as the child’s father to protect his boss.

Edward’s admitted to the affair back in August of 2008.  A federal grand jury investigated whether or not Edwards broke laws and used campaign funds as hush money to cover up the affair.  Hunter was paid over $114,000 for her services.

Edwards admitted paying child support to Hunter and says that he has “reached an agreement with her mother to continue providing support in the future.”

Edwards and his wife Elizabeth have reportedly split.
