Not too long ago, mailboxes across America were filled with credit card offers. Even if you had less than average credit, you could still get a card with a decent interest rate. This is not the case in toay’s market. If you have bad credit in today’s market, you may have to wait until the credit market loosenns up a bit before nailing that next piece of plastic. Until then, here is some valuable advice that you should pay close attention to.
Add Some Positive Info to your Credit Report
Now is the time to start working on your credit. You will be amazed at what you can accomplish in a short amount of time. Get to know your local banks. Local banks are much more willing to work with you than the national big name banks. Tell the bank manager that you are working on rebuilding your credit and you would like to get a micro loan. Once you get that loan, don’t spend the money. Use it to make your payments. Once your local bank sees that you repay your debts they will be more likely to issue you higher loans or even a revolving loan in the form of a credit card.
Negative Items on your Credit Report will Go Away
You should try your best to avoid defaulting on any credit accounts, but things happen. The negative information on your report will eventually drop off. Most bad items take seven years to disappear from your report, but during that time you can be adding positive items.
Overpower the Bad with Good
The more current positive you add to your credit history, the less effect the older negative information has on you. This is not a green light to get as much creit as you can. That is probably what got you in the mess to begin with. Take on small credit lines and pay your bills on time, every month. The positive information that you are adding to your credit history is worth its weight in gold.
Nothing is Impossible
While the current market may not be the best outlook for folks with bad credit, obtaining loans and credit cards is not impossible. Stay focused on your goal, obtain small amounts of credit, and pay your bills on time.
