Harry Reid offers an apology

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid offered an apology on Saturday to President Barrack Obama after making off color race remarks.

Reid, a Democrat from Nevada, was quoted in a new book as having said that Obama did not have a “Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one” and that he was popular because he is “light skinned”.

The senator issued a statement today stating, “I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words. I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African Americans for my improper comments… I have worked hard to advance issues important to the African American community.”

The President issued a statement later in the day letting the public know that he has accepted Reid’s apology.

“I accepted Harry’s apology without question because I’ve known him for years, I’ve seen the passionate leadership he’s shown on issues of social justice and I know what’s in his heart.  As far as I am concerned, the book is closed,” the statement read.

I think the President remark should close this chapter it’s unfortunate but we have to move on we have lots of thing to do health care ,education reform ,immigration, and many more we need to be focus not distracted by comment made a year ago.

Reid has made many insensitive comments about blacks. Just Google it. The only reason the media isn’t all over him for it is because he is a Democrat leader (I don’t understand why). In fact, I just saw a CNN story where they actually found a black professor to defend these remarks. INCONCEIVABLE! This is CNN.

Remember when Hillary tried to do a southern accent on the campaign trail. Now, that there’s funny. I don’t care who you are.

  4. Byyanna says:

It is disheartening. I love this country, but am sick of this behavior from white folks. It is very sad.

Mactar Give me a break… Had any republican said this calls for resignation would be all over the place. Change we can believe in.

  6. Gage says:

What an idiot, If a republican had said this he would have been burned at the stake. But this donk is a democrat so they’ll let it slide. What a joke.

    Bryanna –

It is disheartening, but it isn’t all white folks. There are a lot of bigots/racists in the world, of every color. Stereotyping (assuming all “white folks” are racist) of any kind is bigotry, so maybe you should think before you speak.

To Byyanna, sick of the behavior of white folks? [edited] We have the fattest, wealthiest and most ungrateful poor people in the world and Reid is dumping trillions into these communities. Not enough for you? Juan

We are a much better country and society when we talk openly and honesty without malice about race. It can be painful for thw sensitive. Sen. Maj. Leader Reid’s coarse observations are poorly worded, but they do not offend me, because of the context. Obama is actually biracial, not just light skinned. Some whites have dark skin. Many Blacks have light skin. Not my choice, I’d rather be darker. I don’t use Black English at work because it’s up to me to be able to communicate effectively to advance my career. Nor am I offended by people who chose to speak with various dialects, such as Hispanics, Southern, Chinese. Indian accents are the hardest for me to understand, so I make it clear to them that they need to speak slower and clearer. Our national language is English and we are Americans. As Black, White, Asian, or Hispanic Americans we can’t let things like this get in the way of more important agendas. Our differences are our strengths.

Harry Reid; the gift that keeps on giving.
As for his “preference” for a light skinned negro who speaks negro only when he wants to, shows what absolute racists the party of the jackass is really made of. Those of us concerned about where Obama, Pelosi and Reid are taking us, worry much more about Red than Black.
    Red as in Communist.

  11. Bob says:

Harry Reid is a racist and should be treated as such! His overriding motivation is that now he is trying to make “book” money after the people of Nevada are running his out of town on a rail

I read the story, but before scrolling down to read the comments, I attempted to guess what they’d be like in my own mind. and as fate would have it, most of them were predicatble, almost to word and letter. Herb’s comment gets it right.
In an era where volumes of laws have been and cultural mores have been reshaped to honor some sick sense of intolerance, Despite our society emerging with some very high profile Black people who have been astoundingly successful and have seized the opportunities before them, we still have a contingent of race-baiting, white hating finger pointing Negros ready and willing to protest, rant and rave.

Negros need to take some share of the responsibility for the present racial tensions because race baiters like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have enriched themselves in the cottage industry of white guilt. And yes, I used the word Negro…”African American” is a silly misnomer. When dark skinned people of color go to Europe, they aren’t African Americans; It took a man from Jamaica to point out to me how sill that was.

Harry Reid is a light bigot…people should not be so hard on him. After all, light bigots only mean to be positive in comment and don’t mean to offend…what they won’t acknowledge is what big ass hypocrites they all are. Tolerance…its laughable. Obama isn’t a bad president because he’s black, he is a bad president because he SUCKS! And our country is full of hypocrites. Sara Palin is more qualified than Obama for the post..the country ovewhelmingly states that in poll after poll, yet we elect this guy.

This is just another example of the way the Democrats stand behind each other no matter what they say or do. This is the most corrupt administration that we have ever had in the White House. To make a similar quote to the one Michelle Obama said except for mine is a little different. For the first time in my life I am not proud to be an American. Not because I don’t love America, but because we have a president that does not have out best interests at heart. He lies to America to get what he wants. He makes back room deals with his corrupt friends at the expense of Americans and their children. Democrats buy votes with our tax dollars and they seem to be proud of it. They write the rules as they go. What ever happened to integrity? Oh, that’s right they don’t believe in integrity. Integrity doesn’t put money in their pockest.
