The iPhone is so 2009.

Google Inc. (GOOG) is set to debut a new smartphone that is being dubbed the “iPhone killer”.

Google has been providing their Android Operating system to smartphones for the last two years, but now the company is set to launch its own called Nexus One or “Gphone”, as many bloggers have nicknamed it.

The Internet has been abuzz with rumors and tidbits of information for nearly a year.  On Tuesday, Google will introduce the Nexus One to the world via a press conference at their California Googleplex – or at least we think they will.  The tech company will only say that the press conference is “Android related”.

Some lucky blogger types have gotten their hands on early models, but apparently were sworn to secrecy about the details.  As expected, that didn’t work.  Photos and videos of the new phone have been leaked all over the Internet.

The latest rumor, thanks to IntoMobile.com, states that a newer unlocked version of the Nexus One will go live on AT&T and be compatible with their 3G network.

Google is best known as the largest Internet search engine, but has since branched out into other areas tech areas.  The company recently announced their Google Lunar X PRIZE, a prize for the first privately-funded robotic rovers to land on the Moon.
