Another drop in the United States unemployment rate could be coming. In fact, many economists feel that the probability of this is higher than was previously predicted. In May, the unemployment rate was at 9.7%. This dropped to 9.5% in June. Robert Shiller, an economics professor at Yale University said that there is a greater than 50% chance of a double dip in the unemployment rate, and he expects to see this play out in the near future.
Although a double dip could be coming, this does not absolve the possibility of another recession sometime in the future. Nouriel Robini was interviewed by CNBC, and states that he feels no reason to believe that there will be massive job creation. This is difficult news for those who may have expired their unemployment benefits and are still struggling to find a job.
For those who are unemployed, the important statistics will come at the end of July and onwards. Many Americans are waiting to see what the future will bring, and are simply trying to hang on until something better comes along. They are voicing their opinion in the hopes that someone will hear them and bring a change into their lives.
