For more than a month, detectives have been gathering evidence to present to L.A. County prosecutors for the investigation into Mel Gibson and the domestic violence allegations that he is facing. The evidence will be presented in a few weeks, according to a Sheriff’s Department spokesman.
The spokesman, Steve Whitmore, would not give any details about the evidence found, but simply said that it would be presented to the prosecutors. These prosecutors will then determine if Gibson should have charges filed against him or not.
The detectives are examining claims that Gibson hit Oksana Grigorieva, his former girlfriend. They are also investigating assertions the she, or someone close to her, tried to extort money from Gibson.
Investigators are looking into text messages and e-mails between the two, as well as a cell phone that was used by Grigorieva. The top expert of the department was brought in by the sheriff’s officials to extract and review the information.
Gibson and Grigorieva have one child together, but are no longer in a relationship. If charged, Gibson will be facing domestic violence charges, as well as child endangerment charges. He spoke with detectives earlier this year about the extortion allegations against Grigorieva.
