1. The Dallas Mavericks are the city’s entry into professional basketball’s National Basketball Association. The previous professional basketball team in the city of Dallas was the American Basketball Association’s Dallas Chaparrals. The Chaparrals would eventually move to the city of San Antonio and be admitted into the NBA as the San Antonio Spurs.

2. During World War II captured German prisoners of war who had served with the Desert Fox, Erwin Rommel, in Africa were housed in barracks on the shores of Dallas’ White Rock Lake.

3. A joint airport shared by the communities of Dallas and nearby Fort Worth was proposed as early as 1927, but due to civic disagreements was not acted on until basically forced to by the federal government in 1964. Today, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport is one of the top ten busiest airports in the entire world.

4. The city of Dallas is home to more than 35 accredited colleges or universities.

5. The first and so far only major political party nominating convention held in the city of Dallas was the 1984 Republican National Convention where President Ronald Reagan and Vice President George Bush were nominated on the party’s ticket. An interesting not associated with this convention is that a flag burning arrest was made of a protester outside the convention hall, he would appeal this arrest all the way to the United States Supreme Court which would rule in 1989 that flag desecration laws throughout the country are unconstitutional.

The city has a wonderful shopping district, fabulous restaurant scene, a vibrant nightlife, and a great many attractions including everything from historical sites to professional sporting contests.
