Nexus One
Apple announced today that more than three billion apps have been downloaded from its App Store by users of the iPhone. This news comes on the morning of the release of Google’s new Nexus One, which is being dubbed by the media as the “iPhone killer”.
“Three billion applications downloaded in less than 18 months—this is like nothing we’ve ever seen before,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO via a press release. “The revolutionary App Store offers iPhone and iPod touch users an experience unlike anything else available on other mobile devices, and we see no signs of the competition catching up anytime soon.”
Google may disagree with that last sentence. The statement was released by Apple just hours before Google debuts their next generation smartphone called Nexus One. The gadget is powered by a new version of Google’s Android operating system, which has powered several top brand smartphones for the past two years including Motorola’s Droid.
Google reportedly handed out several Nexus One phones to employees over the weekend with strict instructions not to talk about them, however, several blog posts and Youtube videos later, the world had their first glimpses.
Officially, we don’t know anything about the Nexus One yet, but employees that couldn’t keep a secret are reporting that the phone will have a 3.7 inch display, microSD card slot, 5 megapixel camera, 512MB of ROM, and 512MB of RAM. It is also supposedly slimmer than Apple’s iPhone.
Apple reports over 25 million people use their iPhone worldwide.
